Cats singer Ceili O'Connor melts hearts with impromptu ballad with an old man on free piano at St Pancras station

This is the heart-warming moment a singer from hit West End show Cats performs an impromptu version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow with an old man on the free piano at St Pancras.

Singer Ceili O'Connor was filmed singing beside the pianist, who was playing the Wizard of Oz ballad as the cast of Cats made their way to Brussels for the next leg of their tour.

Posting the video, actor Matthew Rowland said he “captured a bit of magic” in St Pancras station, saying: "I saw this guy playing and called Ceili O'Connor as I knew he needed a singing partner.

“Captured a bit of the magic here. He was so sweet, saying Ceili ‘made his day’ and that she must be in a show.”

The video has gone viral, with thousands liking and sharing the footage, which some described as "beautiful and moving."

Ms O’Conner has since said that she is “slightly overwhelmed with the response to the lovely video” filmed earlier this week.

She wrote: “Thank you for all the kind responses but the real star is my lovely new friend on the piano who lifted us all up by sitting down and playing his heart out. I could have sang with him all day.”

“I wanted to share this wonderful man with you because he certainly loves later life and is proving you can still spread joy and do what you love later on in life,” she added in another Tweet.

Scores of people hailed the video as the “most beautiful and moving tweet”, with one person saying: “Every so often things like this remind me humanity isn’t all bad. Bravo.”

“In the midst of so much calamity, when we see something shining bright we must hold it up for all to see,” another said.

One person wrote: “Just watched this with my mum who has Parkinson’s and it’s the first time in ages that she’s smiled and then sang along, the power of music on the disease that makes you silence.”
