Cattle Run Loose on North Carolina Highway After Tractor-Trailer Overturns

An overturned tractor-trailer sent several cattle running loose on a North Carolina highway on Thursday morning, April 21, police said.

Winston-Salem Police said about 10 cattle were loose on northbound US Route 52 at Interstate 40.

The department said to “use extreme caution as cows are wandering and there have been crashes reported”.

Winston-Salem Fire Battalion Chief Joe Ramsey told local media the trailer was carrying about 80 cows.

Video shared by the Winston-Salem PD shows officers from “multiple agencies,” including the Piedmont Emergency Animal Services, working to move the cows safely from the highway on Thursday morning. Police said they expected the highway to be closed for a few hours. Credit: Winston-Salem Police Department via Storyful
