Caucus set for new proesecutor

Jan. 29—Daviess County Republicans are preparing to select a new county prosecutor. County GOP officials have set a caucus of precinct committee chairmen for Feb. 1 to pick the new prosecutor.

The selection will fill out the term of Dan Murrie. He resigned earlier this month to take over as Daviess County Superior Court Judge, replacing Dean Sobecki who has retired from the bench.

County Republican party chairman Jan Hicks says anyone interested in running for prosecutor should contact her at 812-698-0076. To be considered a candidate for the office the proper paperwork must be filed 72 hours before the caucus.

That caucus is set for Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the old Commissioners room in the Daviess County Courthouse.

The event will be closed to all but party officials and the candidates.

So far two people have filed for the position.

Daviess County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Kurt Leinenbach has been managing the office since Murrie's transition.
