The ex-Liverpool player was speaking on FUBAR Radio's Access all Areas when he made the comments, expressing: "She was madly in love with Ashley and I think her relationships now after Ash, she's sort of struggled [with]. I think that [cheating] took a toll on her as a person as well."

Ashley and Cheryl were married from 2006 to 2010, but the couple split following the former's reported unfaithfulness.

Pennant and Cole were Premier League footballers for a number of years, with both players sharing a history with Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the new reality TV housemate has also discussed how he got the blame for outing Ashley as a cheat, adding: "Obviously Ash told me about it, and a certain someone else, and that friend was very close with Cheryl at the time, closer than I was.

"It was like well 'it's not going to be him', and the last person they looked at was me."

Pennant has recently claimed that Ashley began dating Cheryl while he already had a girlfriend, recalling an incident in which the famous pair were almost caught by Ashley's then-partner.
