India Willoughby has been criticised for her comments about transgender people during a Lorraine interview.

The Celebrity Big Brother star, who was the first to be evicted this series, was speaking about her time in the house when she was asked about her apparent drag phobia.

India decided to take this moment to address the viewers at home.

"Which camera are we on?" she asked.

Facing the right camera, India said: "I'd just like to say, all the people who are transgender – love you to bits, but I'm actually transsexual and there's a slight difference there. It's a medical condition.

"I've had to transition, and to get a lot of abuse from people who may be dressing up once a week or do a stage performance, saying that I'm a disgrace to the transgender community... I find it very strange."

India's comments were interpreted by some people as putting down those who are transgender and dismissing their experiences.

One viewer wrote: "Has India just dismissed transgender people, telling them how they feel what they're going through and how her life's harder than theirs? I'm so confused. She is so patronising and such a nasty person."
