CBS Buys Medical Drama From Neal Baer & Alexandra McNally
Under The Dome
showrunner Neal Baer has teamed with the series’ supervising producer Alexandra McNally for a medical drama, which has been set up at CBS. It hails from CBS TV Studios where Baer is under an overall deal. Written by McNally, Windward Clinic takes an unflinching look at the deeply personal and raw stories of the dedicated health care workers who come together at a clinic in Venice that serves as a crossroads for the haves and have-nots. McNally and Baer executive produce.
This is Baer’s second sale in the past week. He is also paired with Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids creator/showrunner Marc Cherry for an action-adventure mystery drama project, Cheerleader Death Squad at the CW through CBS TV Studios.
Windward Clinic keeps Paradigm-repped Baer close to his medical roots. The practicing pediatrician started off on NBC’s ER, and last season he co-wrote medical drama script The Three Behrs for CBS.
Windward Clinic extends even further medical pitches’ streak this season as medical drama has clearly emerged as the hottest genre this year. CBS also has an untitled project from Jason Katims and Sarah Watson and Code Black, based on Ryan McGarry’s feature documentary, both with put pilot commitments. Additionally, the network has an adaptation of the South Korean medical drama Good Doctor with Daniel Dae Kim producing, a Larry Kaplow project produced by Halle Berry and Katie Jacobs; LFE, produced by Dan Jinks; and Austen’s Razor, centered on a character inspired by Arthur L. Caplan, an authority on bioethics, which has a production commitment.
Fox’s The Cure, from New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell and Medium creator Glenn Gordon Caron and ABC’s medical advocate drama project from David Marshall Grant, Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein also have put pilot commitments. ABC also has a drama from Amy Holden Jones with a significant penalty, and Cold Blood, from Janine Sherman Barrois and Aaron Kaplan; while NBC has Critical, from Eva Longoria, John Glenn and Katie Lovejoy.
