Merseyside Police have released a CCTV image of a man who could have ‘vital’ information about a reported sexual assault in St Helens. It was reported that between 2.15am and 3.30am on Sunday August 18 that a woman was sexually assaulted on Ormskirk Street.

After the incident, the offender walked away towards Claughton Street and College Street and the victim was 'traumatised' by the incident. Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries have been conducted since.

Now, detectives have issued a CCTV image of a man they believe could help with its investigation. Detective inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: “This was a very serious crime where the victim was left stunned by the offender’s action. I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as this are rare, and we will not tolerate such behaviour being committed.
