CCTV shows moment man went on early morning 'rampage' on high street

Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a man smashed the windows of a business in an early morning "rampage". The incident is understood to be part of a number of incidents that took place from 4.30am onwards on Saturday, November 9.

The footage appears to show the man storming down Longmoor Lane, Fazakerley, towards Cunningham’s Florist with an object, believed to be a bottle, in his hand before launching it at the flower shop’s window. He smashes one of the windows and proceeds to walk down the street.

A number of other businesses, including McDonald's, Joey Orr's and a charity shop had their windows smashed, as well as a number of cash machines. It is believed the same man is the culprit in each attack. Business owners told the ECHO how holes were left in their shopfronts describing the attack the random attack as “horrific”.

Colette O’Donnell, owner of Cunningham’s Florist, recalled hearing an “almighty bang” before seeing the damage that had been done to her shop. Colette, 46, from Walton, said: “At half six I heard an almighty bang so I came down, because I live upstairs, and I realised the windows have been broken.

“I was scared when I heard the bang. It was a worry. It was the bang. It [the damage to the window] looked like a gunshot. It was one man on his own, coming all the way along the Vale. He started at McDonald’s and came all the way up.

"He even smashed a charity shop window. He has been on a proper rampage. But for what? It’s ridiculous. What has he got from any of it? [Apart from] frightening people, I’m petrified now, [I keep] thinking what if he comes back.”

Rooney’s Lounge, in Chapel Avenue, was also damaged overnight. Manager, Becki Heron, 35, from Walton, told the ECHO how she thinks he used a hammer to damage their door. She said: “I don’t recognise him from the footage I’ve seen. There were no interactions last night either, no one kicked anyone out. I don’t think it’s anyone who’s been drinking on the vale.

“The mum of the owner of the Premier Dance School came in to tell us this morning about it. It just seems really strange. He’s not targeting anything specific. It seems to be he's gone on a rampage. But I hope he has to pay for the damage he’s caused.

“He was down there at Rice Lane McDonald’s from 4.30am. He ended on Longmoor Lane by the dance studios at 5.50am. That’s a good two hours from Rice Lane to McDonald’s. It would definitely draw suspicion. How did no one see him?”

She added: “We didn’t capture him on our CCTV but we reckon he used a dotty hammer on our door. He must have been carrying loads of bottles to smash as many places as he did. It’s bizarre. We were surprised when we came in. I went, ‘that’s not the window display I ordered.’ But hopefully someone knows something. Has he been somewhere and had an argument? It baffles how nobody saw him. The mystery of Walton vale window smasher.”

Several businesses have reported this incident to police. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who witnessed these incidents, or lives/works locally and may have captured the offender on CCTV, dashcam or other devices, is asked to contact us via @MerPolCC on X, or 101."
