CCTV shows thief in Deliveroo kit picking lock of £1.3k bike before calmly riding off

A thief dressed as a Deliveroo rider was caught on CCTV stealing a £1,300 bike in broad daylight outside Sol Campbell and his wife Fiona’s interior design studio in Westminster.

Wearing a helmet and carrying the online takeaway courier’s distinctive thermal bag on his back, the thief spent five minutes with an accomplice picking the lock that had secured the Ribble R872 carbon bike to storage. He then pulled it from the rack and calmly cycled off.

Security cameras at Fiona Barratt Interiors captured the two suspects in the act on Monday, April 29.

Deliveroo is assisting the police. The investigation is looking at whether the suspects could be using a stolen bag as cover or if they are current or former employees, who can retain the kit.

James Rollinson, 28, discovered his bike was gone when he left work at a nearby public relations agency to ride home to Stoke Newington.

He said: “Nobody would think twice seeing what they think is a Deliveroo employee fiddling with a bike lock and they could then disappear into the sea of other delivery riders in London. I suppose it’s a really good cover for a bike thief.”

Former Arsenal, Spurs and England defender Campbell, 44, runs the interior design business with entrepreneur wife Fiona Barratt-Campbell, 39, granddaughter of Barratt Homes founder Sir Lawrie Barratt.

Mr Rollinson explained: “I went in to ask if they had CCTV. You can see the two men crouching down ... Within five minutes, the guy who looks like a Deliveroo rider gets on my bike and cycles away.” The bike has sentimental value to Mr Rollinson who has completed a number of challenges with it.

Deliveroo used satellite tracking to determine if any of their riders was near the scene, but drew a blank.

The company said: “We are deeply sorry that Mr Rollinson has been the victim of crime and that one of our rider’s bags was used in the act.

“We are in touch with both Mr Rollinson and the authorities to assist with their investigation.”
