CCTV shows van ploughing into pedestrian in 'targeted attack'

Police have released CCTV footage of “targetted attack” in which a stolen van was driven into a man, throwing him into the air.

The 29-year-old victim needed surgery for his injuries after the incident in Blackburn, Lancashire, last month.

Police hope the footage could lead to the capture of the culprit and are trying to find anyone who saw the van – registration number LB65 FMA – around the time of the incident.

The pedestrian was walking in Old Bank Lane with a woman when two men got out of a white Citroen Berlingo and assaulted him at about 2.15pm on Thursday, 24 May.

The men then returned to the vehicle and ploughed into the man as they drove away.

The van has since been recovered and returned to its owner.

Detective Constable Rubina Akoo, of Lancashire Police, said: “This was a targeted attack which happened in broad daylight.

“The CCTV clearly shows the victim being thrown in the air and he suffered some nasty injuries which required surgery.

“We would urge anyone who saw the incident or who has any information which may help to identify the attackers to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference ED1811082 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
