Celebrity Race Across the World's Freddie Brazier and Kola Bokinni opened up about their late mothers in the latest season 2 episode.

Freddie was travelling with his TV presenter dad Jeff, and Ted Lasso actor Kola was with his cousin Mary Ellen. The episode opened with them at the second checkpoint, Lencois, noting that the next day was Mother's Day back home.

In a confessional, Freddie opened up about his vague memories of mum Jade Goody and the mixed emotions of knowing her mostly through the media.

"My mum was Jade Goody. I guess some people know her as 'the Big Brother star,'" he said. "I lost my mum when I was four due to cervical cancer, and that was on Mother's Day, which is really hard.

"A lot of the memories I have of my mum have come from, like, watching her documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers. They're not my memories.

"I don't really remember being held by my mum. If I had more memories with her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me, but I think I would have rather that than not really remember the things I had done with my mum. It's just life really, and I've kind of accepted that."

When the four spoke about Freddie's plans to do something on Mother's Day to remember Jade, Kola opened up about his mother.

"My mum, she passed away when I was 15," he explained. "Tomorrow is Mother's Day, usually all of my brothers and sisters, yeah, they celebrate and reminisce. [Mary Ellen's] mum's been like a mum to me, so Aunt Terese is my favourite aunt."

Later in the episode, Jeff shared that his mum had him at age 15, and then his dad passed away when Jeff was 9.

On the topic of the race, the celebrities had to make the extraordinarily long trip from Lencois to Sao Paolo, and every team struggled not only with being on public transport for ages, but also with budgeting.

Scott Mills and husband Sam Vaughn, who fell into last place in the last episode, especially struggled with missing the overnight bus and missing out on a pre-planned job.

In the end, Kola and Mary were fourth, two hours behind third-placers Scott and Sam. Kelly Brook and Parisi got there second, nine hours after leaders Jeff and Freddie.

Celebrity Race Across the World season 2 airs Wednesday nights at 9pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
