As the 2024 US presidential election hurtles towards a result, celebrities from Beyoncé and Taylor Swift to Kanye West and Elon Musk have been speaking out on who they are backing to win.

Democrat candidate Kamala Harris has drummed up huge celebrity support from the worlds of music, acting and sport, while Republican Trump has a dedicated following of big name stars, many of whom were behind his previous 2016 campaign, too.

Stars can have huge sway over votes in the US, so famous faces at campaign rallies can be a big win for candidates if they resonate with voters.

With an endless list of celebrities keen to have their say on the election, there are too many to list for both sides - these are some of the most notable names backing Harris and Trump this week.

The Friends star got her vote in early and encouraged her followers to do the same, posting on Instagram: "Hi friends Today not only did I vote for access to health care, for reproductive freedom, for equal rights, for safe schools, and for a fair economy, but also for SANITY and HUMAN DECENCY.Please remember that whoever you are and wherever you live, your voice matters. Your VOTE matters.

"I know we don’t agree on everything, and that is the beauty of this country, but GOOD LORD aren’t you tired of this negativity towards each other? The intimidation and constant threats to those who do not think the same as the other? Let’s please end this era of fear, chaos and the attacks on our democracy - and vote for someone who will unite us and not continue to threaten to divide us. I very proudly voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

"We are so lucky we get to VOTE and this election is in our hands! We only have one week until Election Day so talk to your friends, your family, your neighbors and let’s find our way back to each other with respect, common cause, and LOVE."

Getting Swift's vote is sure to drum up a lot more support from her devoted fans, and the singer made her intentions clear back in September after discovering there was an AI deep fake of herself appearing to back Trump.

She clarified: "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades."

Swift signed off her message "Childless Cat Lady" in an extra dig at Trump.

Lizzo's support hasn't stopped at a one-off social media post - she attended a Detroit rally for Harris and spoke in support of her, telling Harris she believed that she was "so close" to winning.

Sharing a series of posts from the rally, she wrote: "Is America ready for its first woman President? It’s About MaDAM Time!!!!"

Hollywood A-lister Julia Roberts also stepped up her support by voicing a TV advert encouraging people to vote for Harris.

It showed a woman being pressured to vote for Trump by her husband, but showed that she could choose Harris instead and that no one would be able to see the way she had voted.

Comedy actor and former doctor Jeong has been busy drumming up Harris support on social media, where he wrote about some of the issues that affected him.

Jeong posted on X: "Stop Asian Hate. Stop Hate. Vote Kamala." He later added: "Right now, we are at a crossroads in the fight for our daughters’ futures. #GirlDadsforHarrisWalz"

Actor Witherspoon joined the throng of celebrities throwing their weight behind Harris as a champion of women's rights over medical care.

Witherspoon posted on Instagram: "I voted today. Top of my mind, as I considered all candidates, is protecting women’s rights to medical privacy and reproductive choice. This is a critical time in our shared history to vote for the candidate that represents the future we want to see. That’s why I voted for Kamala Harris for President. For my daughter and for the millions of hard-working American women who value our freedoms. I want to protect democracy at all costs. I love my country and no matter what happens in this election, I’m here to move our great nation forward in a unified way."

Even entertainment heavyweights like Madonna recognise how important this week's election is, as she cut short a trip to make sure she didn't miss her chance to vote.

The superstar shared on Instagram: "Paris was so FUN!. It was hard to leave, but I had. to come home.to V.O.T.E. @kamalaharris For. President!!!!"

Scarlett Johansson threw some superhero support behind the Harris campaign when she invited her Avengers co-stars Don Cheadle, Mark Ruffalo, Danai Gurira, Paul Bettany and Robert Downey Jr onto a call to say they were backing the VP to win.

In a chat about why they were planning to vote for Harris, they came up with the slogan: "I’m Kamala Harris, and I’m down with democracy."

Ruffalo later posted on Instagram: "Don’t sit this one out. It’s the one where we will lose big: Project 2025, women’s reproductive rights, climate change, LGBTQIA+ rights, public education, student debt relief, Affordable Care Act, Social Security, and as of today, life saving vaccines. This s*** is real and it’s going to come for you. Take 3 friends and know, no matter what you are a hero. Always give it all."

The film star and former governor of California's support for Harris means even more as he is a Republican, but revealed in a post on X that he considered himself to "always be an American before I am a Republican".

Admitting that he "hates politics" at the moment and doesn't like either party, he explained: "I want to tune out. But I can’t. Because rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets. To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious. And I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz."

Beyoncé had long been expected to make an appearance at a Harris campaign event, and did not disappoint when she turned up to the Houston, Texas rally.

She said: "We are at the precipice of an incredible shift — the brink of history. I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a mother. I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all of our children live, a world where we have freedom to control our bodies, a world where we are not divided — our past, our present, our future meet us here."

DiCaprio has said that he will vote for Harris because of concerns about climate change, adding that he feels Trump "continues to deny the facts" about the issue.

Following devastating hurricanes in the US, he posted: "Climate change is killing the earth and ruining our economy. We need a bold step forward to save our economy, our planet and ourselves. That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris. She helped lead the most significant climate action in U.S. history, including passing the Inflation Reduction Act. Under her leadership, we set ambitious targets for achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and building a green economy that not only creates jobs, but also helps save our planet."

The actor has been backing Harris since the summer, when she posted on Instagram that she supported Joe Biden's decision to step down as the Democrat candidate.

The tech billionaire has been a regular at Trump rallies and has donated more than $75 million to the campaign.

He said at a recent appearance: "I think this election is the most important election of our lifetime. This is no ordinary election. President Trump must win to preserve the Constitution. He must win to preserve democracy in America. This is a must win situation, must win."

Like Katona, the controversial comedian might not have a say in the US election, but he's made it clear who he would choose if he could vote.

Speaking on his podcast, Brand said: "If you care about freedom, I don’t know how you could do anything other than vote for Donald Trump for precisely the reasons that they claim that you can’t."

The film star did not hold back in a recent interview with TMZ where he was asked about his thoughts on the election.

Slamming Harris for having "the IQ of a fence post", he added: "I know what it’ll be like if we let her in. And that ain’t good. Miserable track record. No policies to speak of."

Unfortunately, he went viral for the wrong reasons when his signature shirt-ripping routine went wrong and he struggled to complete the move.

The controversial rapper, who once announced his own intention to run for president, has thrown his support behind Trump again for the 2024 election.

Asked who he would be backing, West said: "It's Trump all day."

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul posted a 20-minute long video to social media where he explained why he was backing Trump, accusing the "liberal media" of painting him as the "bad guy".

He added: "I’m not concerned with Donald Trump’s character flaws or what he’s done in the past. What I’m concerned with is how good of a president he is. Because that is his job and that is what’s going to affect the people of this nation."
