Celebrity and sporting worlds send condolences to Vinnie Jones after death of wife Tanya

The celebrity and sporting world have been sending condolences to football and movie hardman Vinnie Jones, after his wife Tanya tragically died aged 53.

Tanya Jones, who married Vinnie in 1994, was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2013 and died peacefully Saturday morning (6 July) surrounded by family members.

The news has shocked the celebrity and sporting world, and Jones’s friends, colleagues and former clubs have took to social media to offer their condolences.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan tweeted: “Such desperately sad news that Tanya Jones has lost her long battle against cancer, aged just 53. She was a delightful woman, and a truly courageous fighter.

My deepest condolences to Vinnie @VinnieJones65 & all the family. RIP Tanya.”

Actor Scot Williams, who worked with Jones on 2014 film Redirected, said: This is tragic. Vinnie is one of the kindest actors I’ve ever worked with and I know that he’ll be devastated. Thoughts are with you and the kids big man.”

Former heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno said: “I’m very saddened to hear the news of Vinnie Jones wife Tanya passing away. My thoughts are with Vinnie & his family at this difficult time.”

Ex-Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell said: “Deepest Condolences to you, your family and loved ones @VinnieJones65.”

Talksport reporter Ian ‘Moose’ Abrahams, said: “Thoughts and wishes today with Vinny Jones after the death of his wife Tanya at the age of 53. The pair had been married for 25 years.”

Jones is perhaps best known for his time at Wimbledon, winning the 1988 FA Cup as part of the infamous ‘Crazy Gang’. He also played for Leeds United and Chelsea.

Wimbledon’s official Twitter account tweeted: “Everyone at Wimbledon wishes to extend their deepest sympathies to our former player, Vinnie Jones, following the tragic death of his wife, Tanya. Our condolences also go out to Vinnie's family at this terrible time.”

Leeds United tweeted: “The thoughts of everyone at #LUFC are with Vinnie Jones, and the family and friends of his wife Tanya, who has sadly passed away #FootballFamily”

Chelsea tweeted: “Our thoughts are with former Blue Vinnie Jones following today’s very sad news.”

In a statement released by his manager, Jones has asked for privacy: “Vinnie and the family ask for privacy while they go through an understandable period of mourning during this devastating time.”
