Celebrity Juice returned for a new series tonight (March 21), dishing out its usual level of NSFW comedy filth.

The quiz show also welcomed new team captain Paddy McGuinness, who has replaced Fearne Cotton, and it probably goes without saying that host Keith Lemon didn't give the newcomer an easy ride on his first appearance.

Having initially emerged from a cardboard box to a large applause from a welcoming audience, Paddy, along with his teammates Howard Donald and Mark Wright, soon found himself taking part in a particularly disgusting challenge.

Competing against Holly Willoughby's team of I'm a Celebrity stars John Barrowman and Emily Atack, Paddy was faced with having to pass a piece of red jelly between his and his teammates' mouths.

The aim of the game was to get the red 'blob' into a hazard containment box, so the stars had to spit the jelly into each other's mouths and make their way across the studio.

Just to add insult to injury, when Paddy pressed his buzzer during a later game in the show, a pre-recording spoke the words: "Emily Atack's team," which prompted a chorus of awkward laughter.

Many fans of the show had previously tipped Emily to replace Fearne as the opposite team captain, and Keith even teased that he was working with her on something. However, Keith revealed that it was always meant to be Paddy.

After Paddy rang the buzzer, Keith joked that they'd originally intended it for Emily, which prompted her to say: "I wondered when that elephant in the room would come up."

Celebrity Juice airs Thursdays at 10pm on ITV.
