We weren't quite sure if the Great British Bake Off tent could usher in a celebrity with a more slapdash approach than last week's Nick Hewer, but today (March 20) we were proven wrong.

Even if his family did literally invent the digestive biscuit.

Yes, in today's Great Celebrity Bake Off in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, Made in Chelsea's Jamie Laing proved that it really doesn't matter where you come from when you're in the kitchen.

Because despite being the ultimate heir of McVitie's – and owning his very own sweet company – Jamie is actually pretty terrible at baking cakes.

But don't just take our word for it, trust the eternal wisdom of judge Paul Hollywood, who told the reality star in no uncertain terms that he had never tasted a more "disgusting" cake in Bake Off 's illustrious history.

As Paul and Prue Leith surveyed Jamie's creation, which looked more like "a pork pie" than a banana loaf cake, Paul boomed: "That has got to be the worst cake that has ever been baked in the tent.

"Ever."

Erm, congratulations?

Of course, today's edition of Celebrity Bake Off wasn't all about Jamie and his disastrous creations – there were also three other stars putting their reputations on the line in the tent.

Singer Ella Eyre, Tim Minchin and leader of the Scottish Conservatives Ruth Davidson also subjected themselves to the challenges of the tent in a bid to become Star Baker.

And those special congratulations go to Ruth, because in news that might just surprise you, it turns out that not only are politicians actually human, they can also be very good at baking.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off continues next Tuesday (March 27) at 8pm on Channel 4.
