Celebrity MasterChef judge's mispronunciation ribbed by fans
"Stop saying celeriac like that John."
Watch: John Torode surprises viewers with pronunciation of celeriac
What did you miss?
Celebrity MasterChef judge John Torode seems convinced that a celeriac is pronounced 'celery-ack', much to the exasperation of viewers.
In the latest episode of the BBC One competition — which closed out the heats phase on Tuesday 3 September — contestant Dominic Skinner selected a celeriac during the 'Under the Closh' challenge and had to make this root vegetable the centrepiece of his first dish.
When Torode said the word itself though, all hell broke loose on social media.
What, how and why?
"What the hell is that? Is that from Doctor Who?" joked the makeup artist, looking rather disgusted at the same time. "It's called a celery-ack. Have you eaten celery-ack before?" replied Torode.
Nobody on the show even batted an eyelid, but Celebrity MasterChef fans were much less forgiving on social media site X.

"Celeriac #celebritymasterchef how do you pronounce it? Not the way John Torode did anyway!" read a third reaction.
Cel-air-ree-ack will do just fine.

Can we talk about WHY John Torode is pronouncing celeriac as 'celery-ak' and not the correct way as 'sell-air-re-ac'?! It's giving me the ick #celebritymasterchef #celeriac

As for what Skinner did with the celeriac, he opted to serve up breakfast röstis.
Greg Wallace told him after sampling the grub: "I love your rösti, I really do. I think it's a very clever idea. It's cooked all the way through, it's not burnt, it's not greasy. Fried egg across the top with the yolk running onto it, crispy bits of bacon, I'm liking this a lot!"
Weighing in, Torode commended Skinner's seasoning and "very brave" idea.
Who didn't make it to the Celeb MasterChef quarter-final?
The Traitors favourite Diane Carson was ultimately eliminated from the cooking competition, with Vito Coppola, OJ Borg, Mutya Buena and Skinner going through to the next round.
Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
