Celebrity plastic surgeon nicknamed ‘Dr Bumbum’ goes on the run after patient dies during procedure

A plastic surgeon who is known by his nickname of Dr Bumbum has gone on the run after one of his patients died following a procedure to enlarge her buttocks.

Dr Denis Furtado took mum-of-two Lilian Calixto to hospital after she fell ill while he gave her injections at his home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

However, Ms Calixto’s conditioned worsened while in hospital and she died several hours later.

Police say Dr Furtado, 45, later disappeared and a judge has now issued a warrant for his arrest.

The plastic surgeon, who has nearly 650,000 followers on Instagram, is a regular on Brazilian TV screens.

Ms Calixto, 46, had travelled from her home in Cuiaba, central Brazil, to undergo buttock enhancement by Dr Furtado on Saturday evening.

The procedure, believed to involve the injection of acrylic glass filler, took place at his apartment in Barra de Tijuca.

Niveo Steffen, president of the Brazilian Plastic Surgery Society, criticised the home procedure.

He said: ‘You cannot perform plastic surgery inside an apartment.

‘Many people are selling a dream, a fantasy to patients in an unethical way and people, weakened, are often attracted to low prices, without considering whether or not the conditions are adequate.’

Dr Furtado’s girlfriend has been arrested on suspicion of taking part in the procedure.
