Celebrity Race Across the World's Freddy Brazier got a talking to from his dad after he splurged some of their budget on a necklace and a gift for his nana.

The 19-year-old and TV presenter dad Jeff are taking part in the current series of the BBC show, which sees them racing from Brazil to Chile on a tight budget of £2,200. The pair are keeping a close eye on the pennies to make sure they have enough to make it all the way.

But in the latest episode on 28 August, Freddy decided to splash out £10 on presents including a key ring for his grandmother and a necklace for himself. He ended up getting work lugging huge barrels of iced tea up and down Copacabana beach in a bid to recoup the money and make amends.

Freddy bought the gifts in a moment by himself, admitting in a piece to camera: "I spent a bit of our budget without asking. I got a key ring for my nana and someone else a present. And that’s only like, what £10."

It all came out later when Jeff quizzed him on their budget as they tried to count up what they had left. Showing him his new necklace, Freddy confessed: "I bought this at the bus stop."

His dad looked miffed about Freddy "taking things out of the budget and not even telling me". "That is quite a lot," he said. "Do you not think because it’s our budget that I deserve to be asked… why didn’t you?"

However, Freddy insisted he would make amends by making the cash back. "As I chipped into the budget I am going to do some work while you relax in Rio," he vowed. "Just watch me."

"I appreciate that," Jeff replied.

When the stars got to Rio, the teenager made good on his word and got some work serving up iced tea on Copacabana beach. Dressed in a bright orange uniform, he lugged two huge barrels of the beverage up and down the sand while his dad looked on.

However, his enthusiasm started to wane as the barrels weighed heavy on his shoulders, and Freddy soon turned to his dad for a helping hand.

"My shoulders are tearing," he said. "Why did I sign up for this?" "Your turn!" he said to Jeff, complaining that his neck and back were sore.

"You should be doing it, no?" his dad replied. "Why am I replacing what you spent? It's your mess, you have got to clear this one up!"

The teen returned to the task and his dad said how proud he was when he completed it. "Well done Freddy," he said, patting him on the back.

Despite the luxury spend this week, Jeff and Freddy remain on top with their budget at £1,236.77 so it wasn't too bad after all. That leaves them with 56% of their budget left in their pocket as the race continues. They remain favourites to win the BBC show too.

Kelly Brook and Jeremy Parisi are close behind them with £1,111.57 at 51% of the budget. Jeremy is very competitive and he has set his sights on winning the show. So when Brook is keen to get a taxi, Jeremy tries to persuade her otherwise. Comparatively, Scott Mills and Sam Vaughan have just £1,088.06 left. This is just 49% of the budget.

The team with the smallest budget remaining are Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen who had just 46% of the budget left. They also came in fourth place this week but it looks like they're set for disaster next week as Bokinni loses his passport.
