Celebrity Race Across the World 's huge route has been announced and it's going through the Amazon.

The pairs of famous racers taking part in the new season of the hit BBC One show will need to find their way from northern Brazil to southern Chile in the fastest time possible to win and there are sure to be plenty of dramas between checkpoints along the route.

It looks set to be even more exciting than last year's celebrity race, which saw weather presenter Alex Beresford and his dad Noel crowned the series winners.

Here's where the celebrities will be checking off their travel list when season two of the Race Across the World celebrity spin-off gets underway.

The 2024 celebrity teams will take part in a 12,500 km race of a lifetime beginning in Belém, northern Brazil, which is the gateway to the Amazon. They must pass through five checkpoints across the length of South America, to reach the finish line in the Andes, Frutillar in southern Chile.

The first series of the celebrity spin-off started out in Marrakech, Morrocco, the most north-western country in Africa. Stars headed on the journey of more than 10,000 km to the final checkpoint in Tromsø, Norway, known as the Arctic capital.

Although they had to make their own decisions on which countries to pass through and which travel opportunities to seize, as with the main series they were given checkpoints that they had to hit for each leg.

The six legs of the journey were as follows:

  • Leg 1 - Marrakesh, Morocco to Pinhão, Portugal

  • Leg 2 - Pinhão, Portugal to Bonifacio, Corsica

  • Leg 3 - Bonifacio, Corsica to Zermatt, Switzerland

  • Leg 4 - Zermatt, Switzerland to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Leg 5 - Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Berlin, Germany

  • Leg 6 - Berlin, Germany to Tromsø, Norway

Beresford and his dad triumphed over McFly drummer Harry Judd and his mum Emma, who were followed by All Saints singer Melanie Blatt and her mum Helene. Former British F4 racing driver Billy Monger and his sister Bonny had to withdraw from the race due to family reasons after leg five.

Season two's route took in the Americas, travelling from Mexico City in Mexico down to Ushuaia in Argentina, the most southerly city in the world.

This time, teams had to pass through seven checkpoints in Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina.

Race Across the World's no-fly rule had to be abandoned for the first time because of civil unrest in Ecuador, making it unsafe for the show to pass through.

Despite the series being shown during the first Covid lockdown, it had actually completed filming in autumn 2019.
