Some deal making to start the week. Cancer drug maker Celgene (CELG) is buying privately held Impact Biomedicines for as much as $7B. The deal comes as Celgene shareholders increased pressure to replace revenue from its top selling treatment before the drug’s patent expires.
Nvidia (NVDA) is making friends in the auto industry. The chipmaker is partnering with Uber, Volkswagen and China’s Baidu to develop tech for driverless cars. Nvidia’s chips will be used for features like AI, facial recognition, and voice assistants.
Ford (F) is powering up with diesel. The popular F-150 is debuting a diesel engine model this spring. Ford says the truck will get 30 miles per gallon on the highway while still keeping its strong towing capabilities.
A legal victory for Starbucks (SBUX). A judge tossed a lawsuit accusing the coffee chain of overcharging customers by under-filling its lattes and mochas to reduce milk costs. The judge agreed with Starbucks’ counterclaim that milk expands when it steams and that its drink volumes do indeed meet its advertised sizes.
