Celine Dion Opens Up About Her Husband René Angélil's Death

Celine Dion has bravely given her first in-depth onscreen interview since her husband René Angélil’s tragic death in January.

The star was left devastated when her husband and brother Daniel passed away from cancer within days of eachother earlier this year, but the grief-stricken star was quick to return to work at her Las Vegas residency in a bid to make René proud.

Celine has now revealed that she is taking comfort from her children, fifteen-year-old René-Charles, and five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, telling TVA interviewer Marie-Claude Barrette: “Every day, I look at René-Charles, Nelson and Eddy and I see René.”

Marie-Claude went on to praise the 48-year-old singer for her “unexpected strength” following their chat, explaining: “I expected to encounter a weakened Celine and I met a woman of unexpected strength.

"I feel honoured to have had her first interview since the death of René.”

The interview was recorded last week and is due to air on the Canadian network on May 18th, on the same day, ABC News will air a separate “compelling” interview with their own correspondent, Deborah Roberts.

Celine has previously only publicly spoken about her husband’s passing when she returned t the stage in February, emotionally telling the crowd on her first night back: “Through my life I only had eyes for my husband, who sat out here night after night. People thought that I was looking at him but I didn’t need to because every time I closed my eyes, I felt René on stage with me.

"Whether he was seated in his seat right there, in the balcony, backstage, or at home with the kids. He’s always been on stage with me and nothing will ever change that.

"I might not hear his voice yet, but I talk to him, I think of him all the time. I feel and I know he hears me, one way or another. I know he will give me a sign for his approval or not. And now I can feel that he is telling me to zip it and start singing.”
