Center Parcs has described an incident at its Sherwood Forest site which saw a tree fall onto a customer's car as "unfortunate". The vehicle was reportedly written off following the incident in the Pine Car Park late on December 7.

A woman got in touch with Nottinghamshire Live to say that she had been staying at the Sherwood Forest resort with her family when the incident occurred. A knock on the family's cabin door saw staff inform them that the Nissan X-trail they had arrived in had been crushed by a tree.

The woman who got in touch with Nottinghamshire Live complained that Center Parcs had not made any offer of compensation and had refused to assist in getting a recovery vehicle at the time to return the family to their Wollaton home. Center Parcs says the reason it is not accepting liability is because the tree in question was healthy.

A spokesperson for the business said: "At Center Parcs we carry out regular checks on the health of the trees in our forest but unfortunately, on rare occasions during extreme weather, trees can become uprooted. The tree that came down on this vehicle was checked and was found to be in good health.

"We do make it clear that vehicles are parked at the owner's risk, and this would appear to be an unfortunate incident. Our team at Sherwood Forest visited the family at the time of the incident to check on their welfare and were informed that they were contacting their insurance company to arrange collection.

"We are sorry that this happened to the family whilst they were at Center Parcs." Sherwood Forest was the first Center Parcs site to open back in 1987.
