Centuries-Old Cherries Discovered at George Washington’s Mount Vernon

A team of archeologists unearthed preserved centuries-old cherries stored in glass bottles in the Mansion cellar of George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia during a revitalization project in May.

The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association said that the archaeologists discovered 35 glass bottles from the 18th century. Of these, 29 were intact and contained cherries and berries that are currently being analyzed.
