Chad Mendes will finally get a crack at the UFC featherweight title, but he'll be stepping into enemy territory to do it.

UFC President Dana White confirmed on Monday night that Mendes would face champion Jose Aldo on Jan. 14 at UFC 142, which is currently slated to take place in Brazil.

White first announced the news to FoxSports.com.

Mendes has been rising towards a featherweight title shot for a few fights now, but timing just didn’t work out for him to challenge Aldo in 2011. Instead, he'll get the first crack at him in the New Year.

Mendes is still undefeated as a fighter with a perfect 11-0 record, including wins over Michihiro Omigawa and Javier Vazquez. He will seek to become the first fighter in the UFC to put a blemish on Aldo's record.

Featherweight champion Jose Aldo (20-1) will look to make his fifth consecutive title defense when he returns in January. Aldo defeated Kenny Florian at UFC 136 to retain his belt, and now he'll get the chance to face the biggest threat to his crown in his home country of Brazil.

UFC 142 is expected to take place on Jan. 14 in Brazil, which will mark the second time in under a year that the promotion has traveled to the South American country for an event.
