Chadwick Boseman's Wife Says She Sees 'Signs' from Her Late Husband 'All of the Time' as She Releases Debut Album
Simone Ledward Boseman, who performs as sahn, released her debut album 'The Mornings' on Friday
Simone Ledward Boseman is looking to her late husband Chadwick Boseman and their relationship for inspiration as she releases her debut album.
Ledward Boseman, who performs as sahn, opened up in a recent interview with Vibe about her journey creating her record The Mornings following the death of her husband at age 43 in August 2020.
The R&B artist explained that the love she shared and the connection she continues to feel with the late actor greatly informed her new music. “I see signs from Chad all of the time. Sometimes they’re much more subtle, but it’s that process of figuring out how you now embrace this new relationship that you have with this person — one that’s now only a spiritual relationship and how you now communicate with them and [vice versa],” the singer explained to the outlet.
“I felt called to really lay it all bare [because] otherwise, if I’m not going to be open, vulnerable, and honest, then what is the point of writing this album?” she added. “It’s still a little bit scary, but I do feel very sure that showing that vulnerability was and is the right thing.”
The singer also shared that she continues to look to the Oscar nominee’s legacy as she sets out to create her own through her songwriting. She said, “Taking everything that I learned and how I was influenced by his legacy is how I’m able to move forward and to continue to carry his spirit with me in my own work.”
“I know that being his wife is a badge that I wear with honor, something that I wear with pride,” the “angelsxdemons” singer said. “It is always that honor to represent him in any space.”
“He changed my life. Knowing him and loving him changed my life,” the recording artist continued. “Losing him changed my life. I think that 'sahn' is how I move forward, how I forge a path that is my own.”
Ledward Boseman released The Mornings independently on Oct. 20. Last month, she released the lead single — the alluring, alt-R&B track “angelsxdemons” and its music video. On the album release date, she also shared the music video for the record’s title track.
On Nov. 1, the performer will share the visual for the song “chad’s prayer,” an instrumental featuring trumpeter Dontae Winslow that she told Vibe she felt was a song that the Get On Up actor would have loved to have heard.
When the singer-songwriter announced the project on Instagram, she shared the album artwork and opened up in the caption about what it means to her. “baby’s first album a letter to my beloved to my past, present and future self a story of strength,” she wrote.
Ledward Boseman’s husband and the star known for his portrayal of King T'Challa in 2018's Black Panther died in August 2020 at his home surrounded by family after a years-long battle with colon cancer.
His wife previously honored him one year after his death at 2021's Stand Up to Cancer televised event, where she performed Billie Holiday’s “I’ll Be Seeing You” as a tribute to him.

In a November 2022 interview with Whoopi Goldberg that aired on Good Morning America, she also spoke about her grief and what she called the "most challenging two years" of her life.
"Some days, I'm doing worse than I'm really willing to acknowledge. Other days, I'm doing better than I feel comfortable admitting," the singer said at the time.
"I can't believe that I was so lucky," she tearfully shared. "I can't believe that I got to love this person, and I also got them to love me too."
