Champions League draw: Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham face nightmare draw after finishing group runners-up

Manchester United blew the chance to top their Champions League group as Jose Mourinho's much-changed side slumped to a 2-1 loss at Valencia.

Their spot in the last 16 was already assured ahead of the trip to the Mestalla, yet this was a chance for Paul Pogba and Co to prove their worth and secure a win that would see them top Group H in the unlikely event that Juventus slipped up in Switzerland.

The improbable played out 650 miles away as Young Boys secured a remarkable 2-1 win against the Serie A behemoths but United failed to capitalise as they lost by the same scoreline in Spain, with Marcus Rashford grabbing a late consolation after Carlos Soler struck and Phil Jones turned into his own goal.

The defeat puts United on a collision course with some of Europe's biggest clubs, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG now possible last 16 opponents.

Schalke, Ajax and Lyon were among the clubs lying in wait had United won their group.

It is a similar story for Liverpool and Tottenham, though both sealed their progression to the knockout stages as runners-up with impressive results in gameweek six.

Spurs face the possibility of a reunion with Juventus, who ended their hopes at the same stage last term, while glamorous ties against Real and PSG could also be drawn out of the hat on Monday. Liverpool can't face group rivals PSG, but a trip to the Camp Nou to face Barca is probably the tie Jurgen Klopp's men will hope to avoid.

A last 16 meeting with Porto looks the most favourable for all three clubs.
