Reacting to the draw, Standard Sport's chief football correspondent James Olley said: "Chelsea have paid a high price for finishing second in their Champions League group by being paired with Barcelona in today’s 16 draw.

"Five English teams made it through to this stage for the first time in the competition’s history and Antonio Conte’s side could only face Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain or Besiktas as a result of finishing runners-up behind Roma.

"The Blues were not alone in receiving a tough assignment, however, as Tottenham will play last season’s finalists Juventus despite topping a group containing Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

"The most mouth-watering tie sees Real Madrid meet PSG while Manchester United play Sevilla, Liverpool meet Porto and Manchester City were drawn against FC Basel."
