West Brom had the result of the weekend as they ended Preston North End’s perfect home record by thrashing them 4-0 at Deepdale in the best performance of their season so far.
The Baggies scored four goals without reply against the Lilywhites who had been third before a ball was kicked. Darnell Furlong opened the scoring in the fourth minute and then Alex Mowatt scored just before the half hour mark to give them a two goal lead before the half-time whistle.
Carlos Corberan's side re-emerged from the changing rooms and further increased their advantage through Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley, with Preston unable to muster up a response. The result saw West Brom move up to eighth and now they are just three points off of a play-off spot, whilst their unbeaten run has stretched to four.
As a reward for their tremendous display against Preston, two players have earned their place in the Championship team of the week. The two inclusions are players that had their futures at The Hawthorn’s come in to question this summer but Saturday’s performance has gone a long way to proving it was the right decision to keep them at the club.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Cardiff City beat Rotherham United 2-0, Sunderland put on an exceptional display against a poor Sheffield Wednesday side, meanwhile Middlesbrough got their season up-and-running with a 3-2 win over Watford, who despite the defeat have a player included in the team of the week.
Flick through the pages to see which players have made the cut for the team of the week (September 29 to October 1), it starts from the goalkeeper and works its way up to the strikers in the traditional 4-4-2 formation.
