CHAOS erupted in Bradford city centre last night as police were attacked after they were called to ongoing criminality.

West Yorkshire Police was called to Centenary Square at 7.09pm on Friday to reports of ongoing criminality taking place.

Large crowds gathered as officers tried to deal with the situation, with some pictured laughing at what was happening and filming what looked to be somebody being arrested.

One passerby said they were walking through the area before catching a bus when they noticed the disruption.

They claimed they saw a female being arrested and that "tensions rose from there".

The passerby added: "We walked away once more police cars turned up."

At one point at least 11 officers were at the scene trying to get a hold on the situation, while an officer with a police dog also turned up.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police revealed a dispersal order was put in place due to the nature of the criminality officers were called to.

Four people in total were arrested on suspicion of various offences, including assaulting emergency workers.

A 17-year-old man has now been charged with obstructing a police officer, while a 22-year-old woman has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

Both are due to appear before the magistrates' court at a later date.

A full statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "Enquiries remain ongoing today following a disorder incident in Bradford City Centre.

"Officers attended at Centenary Square at about 7.09pm on Friday night due to reports of ongoing criminality taking place.

"Due to the nature of the incident a dispersal order was put in place, with four persons arrested for offences including assaulting emergency workers.

"A 17-year-old male has now been charged with obstructing a police officer and a 22-year-old woman charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

"Both will appear before magistrates at a later date."
