IT: Chapter 2 starts production, confirms James McAvoy

James McAvoy has confirmed production on IT: Chapter 2 has started.

The actor shared a snap from the movie's set to confirm he's started filming his role in the upcoming picture.

Unfortunately, he was clever enough not to give away any of the details from the set, instead focusing his snap on a Dairylea cheese triangle.

Captioning the picture with a bad pun, he wrote: "Day 1 on IT 2. Glad you got the memo guys. #passthecheeseplease #derryordairy."

McAvoy has joined the sequel as the adult version of Bill Denbrough, the main character who was one of the Derry kids terrorised by Pennywise.

The movie picks up in the present day – 27 years after the Losers' Club apparently defeated IT in the sewers of Maine.

Jessica Chastain is also joining the cast as Beverly Marsh while the remaining members of the Losers' Club are played by Bill Hader as Richie Tozer, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stanley Uris, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon.

Bill Skarsgard will also be returning as the shapeshifting Pennywise, and recently discussed getting back into the mindset of the killer clown.

"We're gearing up for it now, so I'm sort of in the process of getting back into that character of Pennywise," he explained. "I'm sort of in the mindset and we're gearing up for it.

"I think [the Losers' Club cast] start in July. I'm not sure exactly when my start date is, but some time this summer."

It: Chapter Two will be released in UK cinemas on September 6, 2019.
