Band Aid 30 Ebola Charity Single Goes On Sale

A reworked version of the Band Aid charity single featuring stars including One Direction, U2's Bono and Ellie Goulding is now on sale.

The new recording of Do They Know It's Christmas? marks the 30th anniversary of the song.

It is hoped the single will raise millions for the fight against Ebola in West Africa, which has killed more than 5,000 people.

The song was premiered on Sunday night's X Factor, during which Bob Geldof urged people to help the charity drive.

"This is the most inhuman disease out there, but we can stop it and we will stop it," he said.

He added that the song is "a little bit of pop history".

One Direction, Bono, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Paloma Faith and Ellie Goulding are among the music stars featured on the single.

Rita Ora, Sam Smith, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Elbow, Disclosure, Seal, Jessie Ware, Sinead O'Connor and Clean Bandit also sang on the track.

It is the fourth time the song has been recorded, with the most recent previous effort released a decade ago.

One Direction's Niall Horan arrived to loud cheers from fans gathered outside a west London recording studio on Saturday.

He said: "To be involved and get invited by Sir Bob (Geldof) to do this is just insane, so it's a privilege to be here."

Asked what he hoped to achieve, he added: "Hopefully it gets to number one and it raises a lot of money for a really worthy cause."

The original Band Aid single was released to help fight famine in Ethiopia. The song sold 3.7 million copies and raised £8m.
