Charity Calls For Ban On Porn Sites Which Don’t Block Under-18s

A charity has called for a ban on porn sites which fail to adequately block under-18s from viewing adult material.

The NSPCC says that a generation of children could see their childhood ‘stripped away’ unless porn sites are blocked.

Under the government’s new Digital Economy Bill, porn sites can be fined up to £250,000 for failing to implement age blocks - but the NSPCC says this is not enough.

Sir Peter Wanless, CEO of the NSPCC said, ‘Children in the UK are not allowed to go into sex shops, buy 18 certificate films.

‘We simply want children to be protected from adult-only material online as they are in the offline world.

‘A generation of children are in danger of being stripped of their childhoods at a young age by stumbling across extreme and violent porn online.’

‘We believe that if a company can’t operate within the law they should not be able to do business in the UK.’
