Charity CHUF Toddle in Newcastle to include Family Fun Day with fairground rides and face-painting

Families are invited to enjoy a fun day out at Close House this weekend which will accompany the popular annual CHUF Toddle.

The sponsored toddle, taking place on a mile-long route around the stunning grounds of the hotel and golf course at Heddon-on-the-wall near Newcastle, will be raising money once again for CHUF - the Children's Heart Unit Fund - and will help support families of children with heart conditions. Registration is now closed for Sunday's event but its Family Fun Day, running alongside it, is open to all.

This will get under way on June 30 at noon and will continue until 3pm with fairground rides, face-painting and teddy bear tombolas. The CHUF Toddle - which is set to see hundreds of children in action, including youngsters who have been treated on the Children’s Heart Unit at the city's Freeman Hospital - will take place in three sessions in all, with walks starting at 11am, noon and 1pm.

And popular children's characters will be lying in wait to surprise the youngsters along the way. The Sir Graham Wylie Foundation is supporting this year's event and all of the sponsorship money raised will go to CHUF, which helps to fund services for Heart Heroes, such as regular visits from the popular Clown Doctors, and supports families with the likes of accommodation, food and parking costs during their child's hospital stays.

This year, it could help boost the charity’s newest campaign: CHUF's Seven Appeal which is out to raise urgent funds to buy seven pieces of vital equipment to help speed up NHS services at the hospital's Children’s Heart Unit. There is currently no NHS funding available to cover this £650,000 cost. For more information about this appeal see here.
