Charlotte Hawkins has said that the Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’ won’t apply to her as she’s “happily married”.

Despite the fact that stars including Ben Cohen, Rachel Riley and most recently Louise Redknapp split from their partners soon after appearing on the BBC1 show, Hawkins has insisted that it won’t be “an issue” for her.

“One of the things I get asked about most is the ‘curse of Strictly’, but it’s not an issue as we’re very happily married,” the Good Morning Britain host told Hello! magazine.

Hawkins, 42, has been married to husband Mark Herbert for nine years and welcomed daughter Ella Rose back in 2015.

Speaking about his wife’s pairing with Brenden Cole, Herbert said: “It’s really important they get on – there needs to be quite a bit of chemistry there for their dancing to be good.

“Brendan is a really nice bloke – I’m very happy with him as a choice.

Speaking on Monday’s GMB, Hawkins’ co-star Piers Morgan joked: “Isn't that what they all say just before the curse strikes?”

Hawkins said that she was already getting dancing inspiration from her two-year-old, as she is so “carefree”.

“I look at Ella Rose when she’s dancing and she’s so carefree; completely confident,” she said.

“I think I need a bit of that inner two-year-old to help me on Strictly. That’s the bit you need to hold onto. I need to learn from her,” she said.

“Ella Rose finds it funny when I practise in the kitchen. She helps me with the counting – ‘Five, six, seven eight’.”

She added: “She does baby ballet and has taken to it like a duck to water.”

Hawkins impressed the judges during the first live show on Saturday, earning 22 points with her foxtrot.
