The Charmed reboot has cast the first of its three witch sisters, so at least we have a Power of One for now.

Melonie Diaz will play Mel, who's hellbent on repressing her own ability to manipulate time after being involved in a "tragic accident". Mel's lesbian girlfriend is yet to be cast.

You may have already seen Diaz in the heavy 2013 drama Fruitvale Station, also starring Michael B. Jordan and written and directed by Black Panther's Ryan Coogler as his first feature-length film.

Diaz also appeared in 2016's The Belko Experiment, written by Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn, and she made brief stints in TV shows like Girls and Elementary.

The Charmed reboot cast its first character last week, with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star Ser'Darius Blain landing the role of Macy's boyfriend.

But we're still waiting for Mel's sisters Macy and Madison to be cast and make up the new Power of Three – replacing Prue, Piper and Phoebe from the original run.

Original Power of Three members Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty both criticised The CW earlier this month when it ordered a pilot for what it called a "feminist" reinvention of the show - seemingly discounting the original's feminist credentials.

This reboot is being written for the network by Jane the Virgin writing duo Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin.
