Charmed has cast The Red Line's JJ Hawkins ahead of season three.
The transgender actor, who uses the pronouns he/him and they/them interchangeably, is set to play Kevin, a trans college student who becomes an ally to Mel (Melonie Diaz), Macy (Madeleine Mantock) and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) when they're tasked with facing off against a formidable adversary.
The confirmation of his involvement, which is an important step in the right direction towards increasing representation both in front of and behind the camera, comes during Trans Awareness Week.
"Tfw [that feel when] 2020 isn't all bad news," Hawkins wrote on Instagram, alongside a screenshot of Deadline's original report. Jeffery shared the same image on her Instagram Stories, as she encouraged everyone to welcome the newbie to the Charmed gang.
"It's flipping mutual and we're all flipping out about it," the 27-year-old responded.
Aside from appearing in Ava DuVernay and Greg Berlanti's The Red Line, in which he had a recurring role as transmasculine, non-binary character, Riley, Hawkins has featured in shows such as All Rise, Criminal Minds and NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Based on the 1990s series of the same name, Charmed centres on a trio of sisters who discover they are good witches following the death of their mother.
Gifted as individuals – Mel can freeze time, Macy possesses the power of telekinesis and Maggie can read other people's emotions – the young women are considerably stronger as a unit, and must learn to work together using the 'Power of Three' to defeat otherworldly enemies.
Charmed airs on The CW in the US, while UK viewers can catch it on E4.
