The Chase has paid tribute to a recent contestant who has died.
Mike Johnson, who has appeared on both The Chase and its primetime ITV spinoff show Beat the Chasers, recently passed away from undisclosed causes.
A post on The Chase Instagram account announced the sad news, with a statement reading: "We are deeply saddened by the news that Mike Johnson has passed away.
"A fantastic Beat the Chasers and Chase contestant, our thoughts are with Mike’s family and friends at this very difficult time. Bradley, the Chasers and production loved meeting and spending time with Mike and making him part of the Beat The Chasers & The Chase family."
In a recent appearance on the show, Mike shared that he was trying to win money to take his 5-year-old daughter to visit her grandmother in Trinidad, since they hadn't been able to visit for a while.
Mike put in a tremendous effort, but ultimately lost the £10,000 prize pot to Chasers Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty, Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis and Mark 'The Beast' Labbett with only 13 seconds left on the clock.
Darragh Ennis paid tribute to Mike following the news of his passing, as he wrote on Instagram: "Such a sad loss. A really fun and entertaining contestant."
It has been a sad time at The Chase, since another contestant — Pete Green — died in a house fire before his episode aired earlier in the year.
Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha shared his sympathies on social media over Green's loss when his episode aired on Monday, September 20.
"Saddened to hear that Pete from today's Chase has since passed away in horrible circumstances," Sinha tweeted. "A true gentleman, a warm, engaging and thoroughly entertaining opponent."
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
