The Chase star shares what happens when contestants challenge quiz answers

We can imagine that quizzing under the studio lights is much trickier than shouting answers from your sofa at home.

Not only do you have a live audience to contend with, there are also likely to be countless viewers watching from their houses. So when you're convinced your quiz answer has been marked wrong by mistake, it may feel a little awkward to speak up.

According to The Chase star Darragh Ennis, though, it is perfectly okay to do so if you feel you've been wronged. What's more, there's an entire process in place to quell difficult situations that arise.

During an episode of JaackMaate's Happy Hour podcast, hosts Jack Dean and Stevie White probed 'The Menace' about ITV show secrets. They addressed what happens when players challenge which answers are right.

But Darragh replied: "Oh, [it happens] all the time. That's perfectly fair. We have independent adjudicators on set all the time."

Diving deeper into the procedure, he added: "There's a company called Beyond Dispute and a wonderful woman called Olivia does that. She's appointed to oversee everything. And if either side asks, you know, I want to get that checked. Then she, independent from the producers and the question setters verifies whether the answer is correct or not."

In these instances, the show is paused so everything can be properly verified. Darragh continued: "We don't care how long it takes - it has to be fair and it has to be right.

"We tell everybody as a contestant you're told if you're not happy with the question, if you think your answer is right and you're told it's wrong, say it straight away because we want the cut recording. It's a lot easier editing-wise to cut recording and then they go and check it."

While it may seem like a pretty easy job coming up with quizzes, there's a lot at stake when there's money and film crews involved. Thankfully though, an experienced group of people tasked with doing this.

Darragh concluded: "There's a question-setting team who have the horrible job of setting questions for us because we never stop complaining. We're awful. We really are.

"It's hard setting quiz questions. Sometimes, especially if you're not an expert in the subject, there can be a there can be a second answer. Brad has like a list of acceptable answers that he has to read through for some questions as people can have multiple names."
