The cheapest petrol and diesel prices in Surrey if you're filling up this weekend

The cheapest place in Surrey to fill up your car with petrol is at a Sainsbury's garage in Waverley borough. According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £17 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The Sainsbury's garage at Woolsack Way, Godalming is charging motorists 129.9p per litre, which means it would cost £71 to fill up an average 55 litre tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the government's Competition and Markets Authority last September.

The average price for a litre of petrol across the Surrey region this week is 137.4p.

The most expensive filling station in Surrey is a BP station at M25 westbound at Clacket Lane services. The cost of standard petrol at this station is 159.9p, meaning it would cost a total of £88 to fill up an average family car at this forecourt.

For the owners of diesel cars, the cheapest place to fill up is the Sainsbury's garage in Farnham. The cost of a litre of standard diesel at this forecourt was 134.9p, according to prices supplied by retailers.

UK drivers are currently paying 135.0p per litre of petrol, while people who own diesel vehicles are forking out 140.4p on average. In Surrey owners of petrol cars are currently being charged 2.3p more than the national average of 135.0p. Diesel car drivers in Surrey are paying 2.6p more than the national average.

The cheapest place to buy petrol in the country is at a Tesco garage in South Lanarkshire where a litre of standard petrol is 100.9p. The most expensive petrol station in the country is a ASDA garage in Malvern Hills where motorists are charged 166.9p a litre.

The prices quoted are for standard grade petrol (E10) and for standard grade diesel (B7). The figures are supplied by the major retailers under a voluntary scheme launched by the Competition and Markets Authority to ensure motorists are given a fair deal at the petrol pumps. Most of the major petrol retailers have signed up to the scheme and the petrol stations supplying up-to-date information account for around 60 per cent of the fuel sold in the UK. The price of fuel is often cheaper at Costco outlets, but their service is only available to members.
