The cheapest places to buy petrol and diesel in Kent this weekend

The cheapest place in Kent to fill up your car with petrol is at a Sainsbury's garage in Medway. According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £17.05 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The Sainsbury's garage at Hempstead Valley is charging motorists 138.9p per litre, which means it would cost £76.40 to fill up an average 55 litre tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the government's Competition and Markets Authority last September.

The average price for a litre of petrol across the Kent region this week is 146.1p.

For the owners of diesel cars, the cheapest place to fill up is the Sainsbury's garage at Medway. The cost of a litre of standard diesel at this forecourt was 143.9p, according to prices supplied by retailers.

UK drivers are currently paying 145.4p per litre of petrol, while people who own diesel vehicles are forking out 150.4p on average. In Kent, owners of petrol cars are currently being charged 1.0p more than the national average of 145.4p.

Diesel car drivers in Kent are paying 1.4p more than the national average. The cheapest place to buy petrol in the country is at a Sainsbury's garage in North Yorkshire where a litre of standard petrol is 135.9p.

The most expensive petrol station in the country is a Esso garage in Thurrock where motorists are charged 169.9p a litre. The prices quoted are for standard grade petrol (E10) and for standard grade diesel (B7).

The figures are supplied by the major retailers under a voluntary scheme launched by the Competition and Markets Authority to ensure motorists are given a fair deal at the petrol pumps. Most of the major petrol retailers have signed up to the scheme and the petrol stations supplying up-to-date information account for around 60 per cent of the fuel sold in the UK.

The price of fuel is often cheaper at Costco outlets, but their service is only available to members. The prices quoted are those supplied by retailers as of Saturday, July 6 2024 at 4.45am.
