The cheapest places in Surrey to fill up your car this weekend - with £35 saving

The cheapest place in Surrey to fill up your car with petrol is at a Sainsbury's garage in Reigate and Banstead. According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £35 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The Sainsbury's garage at 21 Bonehurst Road in Reigate and Banstead is charging motorists 130.9p per litre, which means it would cost £76 to fill up an average 55 litre tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the government's Competition and Markets Authority last September.

The average price for a litre of petrol across the Surrey region this week is 138.2p.

The most expensive filling station in Surrey is a BP station at M25 Westbound, Tandridge. The cost of standard petrol at this station is 165.9p, meaning it would cost a total of £93 to fill up an average family car at this forecourt.

For the owners of diesel cars, the cheapest place to fill up is the Sainsbury's garage at Waverley. The cost of a litre of standard diesel at this forecourt was 135.9p, according to prices supplied by retailers.

UK drivers are currently paying 136.4p per litre of petrol, while people who own diesel vehicles are forking out 141.0p on average. In Surrey, owners of petrol cars are currently being charged 0.9p more than the national average of 136.4p, while diesel car drivers in Surrey are paying 1.6p more than the national average.

The cheapest place to buy petrol in the country is at a Applegreen garage in Cheshire West And Chester where a litre of standard petrol is 130.8p. The most expensive petrol station in the country is a BP garage in Tandridge where motorists are charged 165.9p a litre.

The prices quoted are for standard grade petrol (E10) and for standard grade diesel (B7). The figures are supplied by the major retailers under a voluntary scheme launched by the Competition and Markets Authority to ensure motorists are given a fair deal at the petrol pumps.

Most of the major petrol retailers have signed up to the scheme and the petrol stations supplying up-to-date information account for around 60 per cent of the fuel sold in the UK. The price of fuel is often cheaper at Costco outlets, but their service is only available to members.
