Cheapest supermarket for Christmas dinner revealed - and it's not Morrisons, Tesco or even Aldi
The cheapest supermarket for Christmas dinner has been revealed, and it may surprise you to know that it's not Morrisons, Tesco or even Aldi. The supermarket taking the title was nearly £10 cheaper than the average price across all the supermarkets looked at in this study.
Using data from nine major UK supermarket brands, Jason and his team at Proxy Coupons determined the average cost of Christmas dinner based on 13 items. Each supermarket's total cost was calculated so they could make a comparison.
The items on the list included: Turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, pigs in blankets, brussel sprouts, carrots, cranberry sauce, parsnips, Yorkshire puddings, bread Sauce, Christmas pudding, and mince pies. The average cost of all these to create a full Christmas dinner was £49.96.
The cheapest supermarket of the lot was found to be Asda. You really 'get that Asda price feeling' this Christmas, with the supermarket coming out £10 cheaper than the average, at £40.50 for all 13 items.
Next on the list was Morrisons, which was found to cost £3 more at £43.75. Both Morrisons and Asda had the cheapest 2-3kg Turkey on the list, both pricing theirs at £22.50. Third in line was Iceland at £58.74, followed by Sainsbury's at £50.84.
Tesco was fifth at £51.90 with Co-op sixth at £52.53. The biggest surprise would be Aldi coming in seventh on the list. The budget supermarket had a total of £52.61 which was heavily contributed to by having the most expensive turkey on the list at £37.98.
Eight place was Ocado at £52.99 and finally, the most expensive supermarket to purchase a Christmas dinner was found to be Waitrose at £55.82. The study was put together by , a website specialising in discount codes, promo deals, and coupons. Jason Higgs, the Senior Deals Strategist at Proxy Coupons, said: "With a third of Brits saving up specifically to have enough to fund Christmas dinner in 2022, budgeting for your turkey and spuds has, for many, become a core element of the holidays."
