Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is recasting its leading actors – including a new Harry, Ron and Hermione – and here's our first glimpse of them in character.

The West End show's Instagram page has shared a behind-the-scenes video of a photo shoot revealing the new cast:

Instagram family portraits have also been revealed, showing the new-look families from Jack Thorne's play.

Harry Potter will now be portrayed by Jamie Glover, Theo Ancient will play his son Albus, and Emma Lowndes has joined the cast as Harry's wife and Albus's mother, Ginny Weasley.

Thomas Aldridge has joined as Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger will now be played by Rakie Ayola, and their daughter Rose is to be portrayed by Helen Aluko.

There is also a look at villains the Malfoys – as Draco and Scorpius are recast with James Howard and Sam Blenkin joining the cast respectively:

The new cast's first performance at the Palace Theatre in London's West End will be on Wednesday, May 24.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – presented in two parts – is based on an original new story by JK Rowling, while the script comes from Jack Thorne and it is directed by John Tiffany.

The production focuses on Harry's youngest son, Albus Severus, as he struggles to deal with his dad's legacy while living in his shadow.

Last month, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child became the biggest winner in the history of the Olivier Awards, taking a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director.

In total, it has won 22 major theatre awards since opening in London last July, and its book companion has done pretty well too.

As well as playing in the West End, it was recently announced that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open on Broadway on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
