Cheers as Robert E Lee Statue Removed in Richmond

A statue of the Confederate general Robert E Lee was removed from its pedestal in Richmond, Virginia, on the morning of September 8.

A cheering crowd can be heard chanting “Whose streets? Our streets” in this video, which was livestreamed on the Facebook page of Virginia Gov Ralph Northam.

The statue was removed following a ruling by the state Supreme Court against two lawsuits seeking to block Northam’s removal order. Credit: Ralph Northam via Storyful
