Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi hails England debut as a 'dream come true'

England new boy Callum Hudson-Odoi said it was a "dream come true" to make his international debut at Wembley against the Czech Republic.

The Chelsea winger replaced Raheem Sterling, who scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 drubbing, after 65 minutes, and in doing so broke a 64-year-old England record.

At 18 years and 135 days old, Hudson-Odoi has set a new record as the youngest Englishman to make his debut in a competitive match for the Three Lions - a feat last bettered by Manchester United legend Duncan Edwards.

Hudson-Odoi had shown flashes of his potential when coming off the bench for Chelsea this season, scoring four goals and registering four assists despite experiencing limited game time under Maurizio Sarri.

And the teenager showed his ability and confidence on the ball in his brief cameo, playing his part in the fifth goal when his shot was parried by Jiri Pavlenka into the path of Tomas Kalas, who diverted past his own goalkeeper.

The Chelsea winger, who is still yet to make a Premier League start for his club, revealed his delight after the game posting on his official Twitter account.

He tweeted: "Dream come true!! Absolutely delighted to have made my senior debut for @england and with a 5-0 win, hopefully many more to come!!!"

Chelsea face a fight on their hands to keep the starlet at Stamford Bridge after interest from Bayern Munich and the Blues were quick to praise the talented youngster on social media.

The west London club tweeted: "[Tick] England debut. [Tick] Chelsea's youngest England international. What a night for @Calteck10!"

Hudson-Odoi came through the ranks at Chelsea and shone in the youth team that won several honours including the FA Youth Cup.

And his former Under-18s coach Jody Morris, now assistant manager to Frank Lampard at Derby, couldn't resist congratulating the youngster on his rapid rise.

"Delighted for the kid", Morris posted on his Twitter account.

His Chelsea team-mate Trevoh Chalobah, who has played with Hudson-Odoi at every youth level to the Under-20s, was clearly pleased to see both England's new generation coming through to make their debuts.

The 19-year-old's tweet read: "Calum [sic] and Sancho on the same pitch. The future is bright #youth #3lions".

England's next game sees them travel to Podgorica to face Montenegro on Tuesday, where it is likely Hudson-Odoi will start on the bench again.
