Chelsea boss Frank Lampard planning penalty talks after contrasting fortunes for Jorginho and Timo Werner

Frank Lampard plans talks with his Chelsea players over penalty-taking duties after Jorginho missed from the spot for the second time this season.

Timo Werner is in prime position to take over from the Italian after converting from 12 yards when Chelsea were awarded a second penalty of the night in the 4-0 win against Krasnodar.

Jorginho hit the post with his first-half effort in the Champions League Group E tie.

It was his second miss in quick succession after being denied by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson last month.

By contrast, Werner smashed his penalty past Matvey Safonov to spark a late goal flurry for the visitors.

It has left Chelsea manager Lampard with a difficult decision.

“Jorginho has had an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalties in his career, particularly at Chelsea,” he said. “My feeling is that when you take as many penalties as he does there can be periods when you can miss one or two. I've experienced that as a player.

“I've no problem at all with his style of taking them because of the success he has had and Timo Werner I know is very capable of taking penalties, as we saw.

“We have other players that can so I'll talk with them afterwards to see how we move forward, but we have good takers at the club.”

Werner was later diplomatic when addressing penalty duties.

“It depends on the game,” he said. “Not only because Jorginho missed the penalty (does it mean) that some other shoot. But I’m very happy that I scored today and that we won 4-0.

“I think it’s good for us because the last game was not like this. We don’t win so easily. It was good, not only for me, but was good for the whole team.”

Werner’s goal after 76 minutes killed off Krasnodar’s spirited fightback.

Callum Hudson-Odoi had given Chelsea the lead, with Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic all scoring late on.

“After half-time, Krasnodar put a lot of pressure on,” said Werner. “Everybody in the stadium could feel that they wanted to score, but we defended very well and the penalty after that helped us a lot.

“It was not as easy as the result says in the end. The first half was really tough for us.

“Krasnodar were really hard to play against, they caused us a lot of problems. We were a little bit unlucky not to score the (first) penalty but, after that, we played good to the front. We played deep, behind the defenders."
