Chelsea Clinch Premier League Title With Win

Chelsea have won the Barclays Premier League title after a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

The result sees the Blues win their fifth top flight championship and their first since 2010 with three games still to go in the season.

Jose Mourinho's side went into the game needing a win to clinch the title, with a crowd of 41,566 watching the London derby at Stamford Bridge.

And Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard got the vital breakthrough just before half time with his 19th goal of the season as he headed in the rebound after missing a penalty.

His initial effort was scuffed and saved by Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni, but the 24-year-old was first to the ball and sent him the wrong way with his header.

The win sees Chelsea on 83 points, 16 ahead of last season's champions Manchester City in second and Arsenal in third.

Chelsea captain John Terry told Sky Sports: "To get over the line today was a tough match, we were a little bit nervous but we got over the line and are champions.

"The first time is very special obviously, (but) when you go four or five years without winning it and you see teams (winning the league) and you've grafted all year and you get nothing it really hurts - we're going to enjoy today."

It is Mourinho's third Premier League title and Chelsea's fourth in 11 seasons.

The Portuguese manager celebrated the win with his family behind the dugout at the final whistle as blue and white ticker tape fell on to the pitch.

Chelsea were unbeaten for the first 22 games of the season and won the Capital One Cup in March after a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

But they were knocked out of the Champions League in March by Paris St Germain before the quarter finals.
