Chelsea FC 0-1 Manchester City LIVE! Jesus goal - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Chelsea vs Manchester City LIVE!

The stakes are high as Chelsea and Manchester City meet at Stamford Bridge in a repeat of last season’s Champions League.

Chelsea have made an imperious start to the season and can move six points clear of City if Thomas Tuchel records his fourth straight win over Pep Guardiola.

The Blues look like serious title contenders and defending champions City will be desperate to avoid another stumble after drawing at home to Southampton last weekend.

Today is the start of a huge week for City, who travel to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday before a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool next Sunday.

Chelsea have looked with the real deal following the signing £97.5million signing of Romelu Lukaku and today could turn out to a pivotal day in the Premier League title race.

With kick-off at 12:30pm BST, follow all the action with James Robson at Stamford Bridge and Malik Ouzia.

FT: Chelsea 0-1 Man City

14:24 , Malik Ouzia

A massive win for the defending champions.

14:19 , Malik Ouzia

90+1 mins: Four minutes of added time have been signalled but it’s going to end up a fair whack more because Ederson and Havertz are both still down getting treatment.

14:18 , Malik Ouzia

90 mins: Superb from Ederson. Rudiger bends a terrific ball from deep in behind for Havertz to run onto but Ederson is out to punch and both he and the German end up in a heap on the deck.

14:16 , Malik Ouzia

88 mins: Azpilicueta bends a great-looking ball in towards Lukaku but Dias is all over him, the pair grappling with each other, and the Belgian has no chance of getting a clear run at it. Good defending.

14:15 , Malik Ouzia

87 mins: A couple more City changes - Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho are on in place of Foden and Grealish.

14:11 , Malik Ouzia

83 mins: Brilliant save!

Grealish is in to seal it for City and jabs it towards the corner but Mendy gets an arm up and makes the block at close-quarters.

14:10 , Malik Ouzia

82 mins: Crucial defending from Kyle Walker as Werner gets down the right and pulls back towards Havertz but the England full-back nips in to clear.

All set for a grandstand finish here.

14:09 , Malik Ouzia

81 mins: Kevin de Bruyne is the man to make way, probably because he’s still feeling his way back to full fitness.

14:08 , Malik Ouzia

79 mins: Massive chance to seal it. De Bruyne bends in a wonderful free-kick and a sliding Laporte connects well at the back post but his effort ricochets just wide.

Riyad Mahrez is imminent.

14:04 , Malik Ouzia

76 mins: Jorginho is the man to make way.

14:03 , Malik Ouzia

75 mins: Ruben Loftus-Cheek is being readied for a rare Premier League appearance. He had a decent game against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

13:59 , Malik Ouzia

71 mins: Again, Lukaku is too strong for Laporte and though he’s trying to cushion into the path of Werner it’s Kovacic who runs onto it and takes aim but Dias makes his usual superb, body on the line block.

13:56 , Malik Ouzia

68 mins: Close again from City. De Bruyne nutmegs Silva and finds Grealish, who drives into the box and bends it across the face of goal with the outside of his boot but Foden can’t get on the end of it.

13:54 , Malik Ouzia

66 mins: Alonso steps up left-footed but can only ping one into the wall.

13:53 , Malik Ouzia

65 mins: The game has massively opened up now. Lukaku pins Laporte and spins him, the Spaniard left with little choice but to bring him down. He goes into the book and Chelsea have a free-kick in a decent position.

Goal disallowed!

13:51 , Malik Ouzia

63 mins: Now drama at the other end - although I’m not really sure why. Havertz is absolutely miles offside but the linesman delays his flag and the German squares for Lukaku to tap home.

Eventually, the flag goes up.

Off the line!

13:50 , Malik Ouzia

61 mins: Brilliant from Thiago Silva but City should be two-up. Michael Oliver plays a great advantage as Grealish is cleaned out but Cancelo gallops onto the loose ball.

His low cross is pushed away by Mendy but only as far as Jesus and with the goalkeeper out of the equation he’s left just Silva to beat but the Brazilian covers brillaintly to clear.

13:49 , Malik Ouzia

60 mins: Here comes the Chelsea change. Kante makes way and the man who settled the Champions League final between these teams earlier this year, Kai Havertz, is on.

13:46 , Malik Ouzia

58 mins: Brilliant save!

Grealish does superbly, jinking beyond Azpilicueta and firing low towards the far corner but Mendy gets fingertips to it to push it round the post.

James Robson is at Stamford Bridge

13:44 , Malik Ouzia

Unusually poor defending from Chelsea from a corner. They were slow to react to the short corner. Slow to close down Cancelo on the edge of the box - and then allowed Jesus to control and turn in the box, despite all three of Chelsea’s centre backs on, and get his shot away.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Man City | Gabriel Jesus 53'

13:41 , Malik Ouzia

There’s the breakthrough!

City work a corner short this time and Cancelo sells a dummy on the edge of the box before taking aim left-footed. His shot is actually halted by Jesus, but the Brazlian swivels and fires himself, his shot taking a nick and finding the bottom corner.

13:37 , Malik Ouzia

48 mins: Good from City. First, Grealish gets in behind and pulls back for Bernardo, who lays off to De Bruyne but forces him a little wide.

Then, Grealish picks it up in a bit of space and uses Cancelo’s overlapping run as a decoy to shape for the far corner but he doesn’t get the required bend on it.

13:34 , Malik Ouzia

46 mins: No changes at the break but as James said at half-time, it surely won’t be long before Thomas Tuchel turns to his bench. Perhaps the fact that he’s already had to use one substitution has bought the XI on the field a little more time.

KICK-OFF!

We are back underway...

13:28 , Malik Ouzia

Chelsea will of course also be hoping that that Reece James injury is nothing too serious. The fact that he was able to play on for a while would suggest not, but then again it could be that he aggravated it somewhere after the original tackle.

On the bright side, they might just have the deepest squad in the league at the moment.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tuchel make a change at half time. The midfield balance isn’t working. Kante is getting taken out of it too easily. Havertz’ craft may be required or Ziyech’s width.

13:15 , Malik Ouzia

43 mins: That’s really poor from Azpilicueta. Jorginho pings a stunning ball out to the Spaniard and both Werner and Lukaku are screaming for an early cross having got the run on their markers.

Azpilicueta delays and the chance is gone. Lukaku in particular is not shy about letting his captain know what he thinks of that.

13:12 , Malik Ouzia

41 mins: Almost sensational. Cancelo kills the ball dead on the touchline and then delivers an outrageous early cross in behind with the outside of his boot that is just too far ahead of De Bruyne.

Moments later Foden clips a superb ball over to Jesus at the back post and the Brazilian brings it down on his chest but slices his volley high and wide.

13:08 , Malik Ouzia

38 mins: Romelu Lukaku has been a spectator so far and there are groans around the ground as a heavy touch from the Belgian immediately gifts City possession.

James Robson is at Stamford Bridge

13:07 , Malik Ouzia

City turning the screw a bit. Chelsea are being forced to sit deep and it took an important interception from Jorginho to deny Jesus a chance.

We know Chelsea are comfortable defending deep, but they need to give City something to worry about at the other end.

13:05 , Malik Ouzia

34 mins: Finally a bit of space for City on the break as Alonso gives it away and it ends up with Rodri letting fly from ranger but it takes a nick off Rudiger and goes behind for another corner.

13:02 , Malik Ouzia

32 mins: No way through. Walker fizzes a great ball into De Bruyne on the edge of the box and he turns to shoot but is immediately surrounded by three men in (darker) blue shirts.

12:59 , Malik Ouzia

28 mins: It’s going to be Thiago Silva - maybe a little surprising because Tuchel suggested in his pre-match interview that the Brazilian would have started this game but was struggling with a knock in training yesterday.

Anyway, he’ll come on at centre-back and Azpilicueta will shuffle out to right-wing-back.

12:58 , Malik Ouzia

27 mins: Looks like Reece James might not have shaken off that ankle problem after all. He goes down off the ball and Thiago Silva and Trevor Chalobah are both out to warm-up.

12:56 , Malik Ouzia

25 mins: City are racking up the corners here. Once again though, Mendy is out at his near-post to punch clear under pressure.

12:53 , Malik Ouzia

22 mins: Antonio Rudiger and Bernardo Silva are involved in a little off the ball scuffle and Lukaku trots over for a word with the Portuguese as well.

Pick on someone your own size, lads.

12:50 , Malik Ouzia

19 mins: Mendy’s made an assured start on his return from injury, coming and claiming a couple of early City corners. Without the commanding presence of Thiago Silva at the back today, that’ll be handy for the Blues.

James Robson is at Stamford Bridge

12:49 , Malik Ouzia

It has been a bright start from Werner. City do not like his pace and he is offering the option of a quick outball for Chelsea.

James Robson is at Stamford Bridge

12:47 , Malik Ouzia

That was the first time Werner managed to break on goal. His first touch let him down, but credit to him for recovering and crossing to Lukaku. If not for Cancelo’s intervention Chelsea would be ahead.

12:46 , Malik Ouzia

15 mins: Oof, there’s the first sign of Werner’s threat on the break. The German looks to be in behind for a moment but he’s forced wide by Dias.

He still manages to get a cross in towards Lukaku but Cancelo has covered well and doesn’t let the striker get any sort of clean contact.

12:44 , Malik Ouzia

14 mins: Chelsea have hardly had a kick so far. It’s been all Man City in terms of possesion, albeit without much sign of a way through just yet.

12:42 , Malik Ouzia

12 mins: Bit of treatment and it looks like he’ll be okay to carry on.

12:42 , Malik Ouzia

11 mins: Grealish and James are already having a right good ding-dong here but now the Chelsea wing-back has gone over a little awkwardly on his ankle. It’d be a real shame if he has to depart here because that battle is fizzing.

James Robson is at Stamford Bridge

12:41 , Malik Ouzia

It’s very animated from Tuchel here. He’s screaming at his players for not getting close enough to City’s defenders and putting them under pressure.

12:38 , Malik Ouzia

7 mins: Ouch. Jesus is on the receiving end of a crunching but fair tackle from Rudiger and then crashes into the advertising hoardings for good measure.

12:34 , Malik Ouzia

3 mins: City have started brightly here. Grealish has already has a run at James, although he couldn’t keep it in on the byline, while Jesus’ cross was headed over his own bar by Azpilicueta.

James Robson is at Stamford Bridge

12:34 , Malik Ouzia

Tuchel has explained the absence of Havertz and Ziyech today, saying: “Maybe Kai and Hakim lack a little bit of form and lost confidence and that’s why we went for Timo.”

It is a big call - especially after Havertz scored the winner in the Champions League Final - but, as we know, Tuchel is not afraid to make an early change if his plans don’t go accordingly.

KICK-OFF!

12:31 , Malik Ouzia

We are underway...

12:28 , Malik Ouzia

The teams are on their way out at the Bridge. Grey skies in west London but it’s dry at least. The atmosphere is bubbling nicely...

12:19 , Malik Ouzia

Right then, just ten minutes to go until kick-off. You don’t want to be over-dramatic about the implications on the title race at this early stage, but a Chelsea win today would see them pull six points clear of Manchester City.

It’s worth remebering that before last year’s return to something like a normal season in terms of the number of points needed to win a title, we’d had a few years of absolutely ridiculous tallies. Six points could end up being pretty significant.

‘Werner is a good fit today'

11:57 , Giuseppe Muro

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to BT Sport: "We need exactly the same mix of skilful play as in our last games, but also to be very emotional and aggressive.

"Timo [Werner] is a good fit today because he brings a good intensity to our game, on and off the ball. That is what we need. Maybe Kai [Havertz] and Hakim [Ziyech] are lacking a little bit of confidence. We’re happy that N’Golo [Kante] can play. Thiago [Silva] had some issues in training, otherwise he would have started.

"Pep Guardiola is doing what he always does. He brings out the best in his team. They have their style of play, we have ours. You can win football games with any player and with any characteristics. It’s necessary for us to be at our very top level. It’s very hard to predict. They have a lot of solutions and a lot of confidence."

11:52 , Giuseppe Muro

No team has ever won four matches in a row against a Pep Guardiola side.

Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel could achieve that today.

Tuchel guided Chelsea to victories over Manchester City in the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League last season and a win today would give him a record against Guardiola.
