Chelsea Ladies face a probable semi-final meeting against holders Manchester City in the SSE Women’s FA Cup after this morning’s draw put the clubs on a likely collision course.

Chelsea eased to their fifth semi-final in as many seasons with a 3-0 victory away to Liverpool yesterday, while City’s fixture at Sunderland was postponed due to snow. If City win the rearranged fixture on Sunday, the pair — respectively first and second in the FA WSL Super League — will meet in the semis at Chelsea’s Kingsmeadow home.

The other semi-final will pit the winners of Arsenal’s tie against third-tier Charlton — again a victim of the snow — away to Durham or Everton, whose tie was also postponed. The London derby has also been rearranged for Sunday.

Chelsea, Women’s FA Cup winners in 2015 and runners-up in 2016, took a convincing half-time lead at Prescot through goals from Jonna Andersson and skipper Katie Chapman. A penalty from Norwegian Maren Mjelde shortly before the hour confirmed the win.

Assistant coach Paul Green said: “I thought it was a really good performance in difficult conditions and we’ve gone through pretty comfortably in the end. The depth and the quality we’ve got in our squad shone through.

"It’s a very attacking formation, the wing-backs contribute to that. Jonna has shown she can get into the areas and has the ability to score goals for us.”

Chelsea have another quarter-final on Wednesday when they take on Montpellier in France in the first leg of their Champions League last-eight tie.
