Chelsea team news: Ross Barkley in line to make his debut after being named in squad for Brighton match

Ross Barkley will travel with the Chelsea squad to Brighton and could be given his debut for Antonio Conte's side at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

Barkley, who joined the champions from Everton in a £15m deal a fortnight ago, was prevented from making his Chelsea debut against Norwich in the FA Cup in midweek as he was not registered in time to play.

However, the midfielder played 70 minutes of a friendly match on Thursday, and will now travel to Brighton and be in Conte's matchday squad at the Amex.

Speaking about Barkley to reporters on Friday, Conte said: "He's in a good physical condition. He played 70 minutes of a friendly game yesterday. He's in the squad and is coming with us to Brighton. I don't know whether I'll give him a chance to play or wait."

Although Conte would not confirm whether Barkley will start, he is likely to play some part against Brighton due to Cesc Fabregas' hamstring injury, which has ruled the Spaniard out of the Premier League match.

It is believed Fabregas picked up the injury in training this week and, along with the injured Gary Cahill, will miss the trip to the coast.

Conte will also not have top scorer Alvaro Morata nor Pedro available on Saturday after the pair were both sent off for two bookable offences in the penalty shoot-out FA Cup third-round replay win over Norwich at Stamford Bridge.
